CV Tailoring

CV tailoring is a crucial part of any job application, especially as many employers use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). These systems scan your CV, extract key information, and compare your skills, qualifications, and experience against set benchmarks which will normally be outlined or hinted at in the job description. By tailoring your CV to match the role, you can improve your chances of passing initial screening and securing an interview.

Now getting passed this is surprisingly simple. Just follow this simple approach (or use the Template below)

  1. Read the job description carefully and identify key requirements, such as skills, qualifications, responsibilities, and company values.
  2. Tailor your CV to the role by highlighting experiences that demonstrate the skills the employer is seeking. For example, if communication is a key requirement, ensure this is evidenced throughout your application.
  3. Use quantifiable achievements wherever possible. Aim for at least 2-4 bullet points per experience that include numbers, percentages, revenue, team sizes, or measurable outcomes.
  4. Keep your formatting simple and professional. Complex layouts, tables, graphics, and icons can make it harder for Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to read your CV accurately.
  5. Review your CV and ensure that the most relevant keywords from the job description are naturally incorporated throughout the document.
